Folic Acid is a supplement for pregnant women, or women planning pregnancy. Folic Acid is a natural B group vitamin, it is necessary for tissue growth and the digestion of proteins. If Folic Acid is taken for the four weeks before conception and for the first three months of pregnancy. It may reduce the incidence of neural tube defects in newborns (for example, spina bifida).
Women : take one tablet daily from 4 weeks before conception to three months after or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not exceed recommended dosage. Side effects are rare but some people may experience nausea and vomiting. If any unusual side effects are experienced discontinue use and see your doctor. If you are allergic to medications containing Folic Acid you should not use Folic Acid. If you are currently having cancer chemotherapy or are taking any anticonvulsants, sulphasalazine or sulphonamides you should consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Folic Acid. You should not drink alcohol while taking Folic Acid.
