STENDRA (avanafil)
Stendra: oral treatment for male impotence and erectile dysfunction
-
Avanafil is a
PDE5 inhibitor approved for
erectile dysfunction on April 27, 2012.
Avanafil is known by the trademark name Stendra and was developed by
Vivus Inc.
It
acts by inhibiting a specific
phosphodiesterase type 5 enzyme which is found in various body tissues, but
primarily in the
corpus cavernosum penis, as well as the retina.
Other similar drugs are
sildenafil,
tadalafil
and vardenafil.
The advantage of avanafil is that it has
very fast onset of
action compared with other PDE5 inhibitors.

Stendra causes the expansion of
blood vessels in the penis, allowing blood to enter the penis and the formation
of an erection to occur.
The drug gets into work within
fifteen minutes.
This drug should not be used by
people who take nitrates, commonly used for chest pain because a combination of
these can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure.
Stendra is the only drug in the
last decade to be given approval by the FDA for the treatment of male impotence.
Stendra will be quicker to act and
requires a full of 30 minutes for effectiveness and in 15 minutes it would be a
significant improvement.
Stendra comes in dosages of 50mg,
100mg and 200mg and this is the new drug for erectile dysfunction.
For most of the patients stendra
starting dose is 100mg and should be approximately taken 30 minutes before
sexual activity and should not be taken more than once per day.
Stendra Avanafil is a new PDE5
inhibitor indicated for erectile dysfunction treatment available under
prescription on the market.
Stendra can cause side effects
such as flushing, runny nose, stuffy nose, sore throat and back pain.
Several clinical trials have
demonstrated that it acts much faster than any leading ED medication currently
on the market .
Out of thousands of men who
participated in these trials, a large percentage reported firm erections with-in
15 minutes after taking it.
The success rate is calculated at
77% and it is becoming known as the fastest pill available.
Stendra resulted in successful
intercourse for 57% of men with
general ED (vs. 27% of men taking
placebo) and for 40% of men with
diabetes-related ED (vs. 20% of men
taking placebo).
The main side effects of avanafil
are similar to those of its sister
drugs: headache, flushing, stuffy
nose, and back pain.
Rarely, an erection lasting for four
or more hours may occur, which would
need immediate medical attention.
Other side effects occurring rarely
include color vision changes, sudden
loss of vision, and sudden loss of
hearing.
If sudden loss of vision or hearing
occurs, it is recommended to call a
doctor immediately.
Men who take nitrate medications
should not take Stendra because the
combination of these two medications
can lead to a sudden drop in blood
pressure.
